The Dublin City Sports Archive was established by Dublin City Library and Archive in September 2010 to provide a lasting legacy to Dublin’s term as European Capital of Sport.
Dublin has a rich sporting heritage, with sport also playing an intrinsic role in the city’s social and cultural identity. Every local sports club or organization produces its own original records such as photographs, programs, minute books, financial records, correspondence, lists of membership, results of competitions, social events ephemera, and scrapbooks. These records are evidence of its activities and its significance at local and national level, and are of immense value to researchers.
We would like to encourage local clubs and communities to contact us if they have any material which tells the story of sport and the capital city which they would be willing to donate to the Sports Archive.
Any material donated will be preserved and stored in our state of the art archive strong rooms. Once material has been fully catalogued, it will be made available to the public in the Dublin City Library and Archive Reading Room.
